Policies

Guardian policy

Guardian mode lets parents, siblings and mentors take part — but the member always holds the final say. This policy sets out the rules that our servers enforce.

Version 2026-10-20Takes effect when the closed beta opens.

The member holds the final say

A guardian acts only within the permission the member gives. This is enforced by our servers, not just shown in the app, and every guardian action is written to an activity log the member can see.

Inviting a guardian

A member invites a guardian by phone number or with a WhatsApp link, and says how they are related: father, mother, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, grandparent, imam or mentor, or another relative.

The three permission levels

Guardian permission levels
LevelWhat the guardian can do
Can viewSee the member’s daily matches and the interests the member has accepted.
Can view and suggestAlso suggest profiles to the member and keep private notes.
Active guardian (wali)Also send interests on the member’s behalf, and join a chat when the member invites them.

At every level, guardians never see a member’s private chats unless the member adds them to that chat. A guardian cannot accept a proposal, or agree to anything, on the member’s behalf.

Changing or removing a guardian

A member can lower a guardian’s permission or remove them at any time, without giving a reason. The guardian is told politely — for example "Sumaiya has updated who helps with her profile. Thank you for your support." — and never told why.

Profiles a guardian creates

  • A parent or relative may create a profile for a son, daughter or sibling, and manage it as the "profile manager".
  • The profile cannot chat with anyone until the member claims it with their own phone number and selfie check, and confirms: "I am choosing to marry freely."
  • Once the member claims it, the profile is theirs. The person who created it becomes a guardian with the permission the member chooses (by default "can view"), and keeps no other control.
  • A profile that is never claimed is deleted after 30 days of inactivity.

Every member, including on a guardian-created profile, confirms that they are choosing to marry freely. Reports of pressure to marry go in confidence to a trained member of our team, with support organisations for the member’s country, and are never shared with guardians or family.

Guardians in chats

Either side can add their own active guardian to a conversation. Whenever a guardian is in the chat, a banner tells both sides. The member decides whether the guardian sees earlier messages.

Information about guardians

For guardians we keep their name, phone number, relationship to the member, permission level and the actions they take. Guardians have the same privacy rights as members — see the privacy policy.

Family Plus

The planned Family Plus plan gives the member Premium plus advisor tools for up to three guardians. See pricing.
